GhostBlock Options

Overview

GhostBlock removes certain bits of personal information from outgoing data for those sites that have "personal information" blocked. This options pane lets you choose which bits you would like to remove. GhostSurf comes with the four shown installed--you can turn them on or off, and you can add new ones (or delete existing ones).

To learn more about how to add new ones or edit the existing ones, please read the Filter info help. That article describes how filters work in detail.

Please remember that the filters apply only to websites for which you've indicated that you want personal information blocked. If you remove all the default filters, GhostSurf will not block anything even though you've said "block personal information" for some sites. This options pane allows you to tell GhostSurf how to block personal information. For almost any user, the default settings should be sufficient.

Image cache

If you select the "Use image cache" feature, GhostSurf will not send requests to the web for images you've seen before. This can dramatically increase the speed with which web pages load; your browser will load them directly from your hard drive without waiting for the visited website to respond.

The downside is that images will not always be up-to-date. Because images change infrequently, the speed improvement that results from using the image cache is often worth the potential inaccuracy of images on the pages you visit.

Proxy

If your Internet service requires you to connect through a proxy, or if you want to chain GhostSurf to another proxy, you will need to enter the appropriate proxy information in the "Proxy" box. If you're connecting through a proxy, you can't use anonymous hubs; your information has to go to the proxy you specify (instead of to an anonymous hub).
